The batteries operation was not the most appreciated feature of the CT7.  

We have replaced 2x in series  1.2V 2400mAh NiMh batteries by 2x parallel  900mA 3.7V Li-Ion, gaining on the way 50% energy storage  capacity.  

The charge on USB2 connection is limited to 500mA. The nominal charge time is estimated to be 3h30.

New LED indicators on the top of the CT7 indicating state of the instrument:  ON, CHARGE and STANDBY (powered and chargerd).



UPGRADE your CT7 at no cost:

We invite all users of CT7 to send back their instruments for upgrade at no charge but transport cost. 

Since 2012 we have concentrated on improving the stability beyond 0.1%.  The new  High Precision Optical Head is a result of complete revision of optics and  detectors'  front end.

The achieved  short term repeatability is in order of 0.01%.

CT7 is pretty much software defined instrument, with  digita signal filter, DSP. Even the analog signal paths is in the reality half digital or controlled by digital parameters.. 

It's quite natural that  we are continously improving the instruments' firmware.  This article explains how to  upload CT7 using CT7-Console application and firmware downoaded from CT7 support www.  

The procedure is straightforward and takes just about 1 minute.

Firmware upload procedure:

1. Get new version of CT7_DSP.bin from support www (link) and place it in CT7\update folder of your PC

2. Connect CT7 to PC CT7-Console


CT7 has no intrinsic reflectivity reference. The construction of the instrument and its measurement technique ensures very high precision and stability of measured ratio of source intensity to the  returned signal.

This ratio is converted to reflectivity value by dividing it by calibration coefficient which is found by measuring a known mirror in CALIBRATION operation.

For user convenience, a first surface AL mirror, with known nominal reflectivity values for each wavelength is provided as calibration reflectivity target.

It may happen that at user location there is a reference lab and all measurement are referenced to local calibration system giving slightly different values.

CT7 allows to export data in CVS format easily processed by programs like Excel.

Reading CT7 exported data, may require two simple manual action:

  1. The columns of exported data are saparated by tabulation sign "\t".  Depending on Excel settings, a manual conversion text-to-colums shall be performed.
  2. CT7   works with fixed decimal point convention:  decimal separator is a dot "." .  Depending on local convention it may be necessary to replace dot by comma in exported .cvs file before Excel can process data as numbers not as text.

CT7 is fully featured and operational as a stand alone instrument. 

Nevertheless, setting parameters with joystick and a small display of handheld device, is not as confortable as  typing the values on a PC keyboard.

For this reason, beginning from version 1.00.07 of CT7-Console we have included extended parameters control ( mode Advanced and Expert).

In any mode  you may set the time and date by pressing:

to inject  PC system time and date  to CT7 in one-click action.


Correct time setting is very important for data management.  Each measurement has unique,  absolute and  monotonic serial number.

The installation procedure for Windows 7,8 is simpler than ever.

In contrast to XP and Vista systems, the USB driver will be  automatically downloaded (*) and installed. The necessary  ".NET framework" is already included since Win7 .

You may use CT7 software provided with the instrument or check for updated versions from CT7 DOWNLOAD AREA.

(*) The PC shall have internet access.

The installation procedure is  simple on Windows XP and Vista systems, however the USB driver shall be installed manually prior to connection of the instrument.

During the setup of CT7 Console  the  ".NET framework"  will be  automatically(*) downloaded from Microsoft and installed .
